Balakavita Pathostava 3 – September 2016, Delhi

The Third Annual Poet’s Meet, titled ‘Balakavita Pathotsava’, was organized by the Samskrita Bala-Sahitya Parishad, an initiative of Sri Aurobindo Foundation for Indian Culture (SAFIC), in addition to the national seminar being held during the same time. This event was open to all amateur as well as professional Sanskrit poets regardless of age. The main criteria were that the Sanskrit poems to be recited had to be self-composed by the participant and strictly meant for children between the ages of 5 and 15.

The invited guests included Professor Radhavallabh Tripathi (Ex-Vice Chancellor of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Delhi) and Dr. Rajendra Tripathi (Associate Professor at the Allahabad Degree College and popularly known as ‘Rasraj’). The three judges on this occasion were Professor Abhiraj Rajendra Mishra (Ex-Vice Chancellor of Sampurnanand University, Varanasi), Dr. Harshadev Madhav (Eminent modern Sanskrit poet and Sahitya Akademi Awardee 2006) and Dr. Bhagirathi Nanda (Professor, Department of Sahitya, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Delhi). The entire programme was coordinated by two members of the Parishad—Dr. Narayana Dash and Dr. Tanmay Kumar Bhattacharya, both noted Sanskrit scholars themselves.

Keen participation was seen from people in and around Delhi as well as from participants who were also present in Delhi to attend the national seminar. Some of the interested participants who could not attend the event had sent a video clipping of them reciting the poems, which was played on the screen at the venue. Around 20 people participated in the Poet’s Meet, and at the end of the programme the judges awarded two prizes for the ‘Best Poet’—one to Dr. Kaushal Tiwari, a Sanskrit teacher from Rajasthan, and the other to Dr. Bharat Bhusan Rath, a Sanskrit academician from Andhra Pradesh.
